In the fall of 2009 we were having lunch at café Kaartintupa (now sadly defunct) in Helsinki. We came up with the idea of setting up a travel agency—an agency where the trips wouldn’t cost anything, because you wouldn’t travel far and you could decide the duration of your trip yourself. There wouldn’t be an actual agency, really, but we—the travel agents—would definitely wear stylish garrison caps. The destinations wouldn’t be crowded, because you’d travel alone, in twos, or in threes. The selection of routes and destinations would develop and grow constantly. In addition, the travellers should never be quite sure where they’d end up and who they’d meet along the way, we thought.
The more we talked about it, the more fun the idea started to sound. But where would we take our travellers? What does luxury mean for us? At least, it’s about quality time with ourselves, good food, and great company. How could you combine those into trips and travels? This is what we’re trying to do with Nopsa.
Because neither of us knows anything about the travel industry, we’re taking it easy, writing up little routes about our favourite places, and hoping others will do the same. We are looking for places, spaces, and destinations where people have experienced something memorable. Where would you take us?
